Summer Seedlings Camp/Build & Play Counselors Wanted

Sunflower Creative Arts has respectfully nurtured young children’s growth for more than 29 years. Our mission is to empower children and their families to be Confident, Creative and Compassionate through Play, Nature and the Arts.

Sunflower is always looking for potential counselors to join our Seedlings summer camp team. Our program is a Play, Nature, and Arts-based camp for 3-6-year-olds.

We are looking for creative, enthusiastic [humans/adventurers/workers/play & childhood advocates] who are comfortable in a positive hands-on learning environment entirely based in play, nature and the arts. If you love children and enjoy making a difference in their lives, this position is for you.

As a Summer Seedlings Camp Counselor you will:

Relive the joy of your own childhood play– run in the rain– grow gardens- chase butterflies- ask questions- jump in mud and splash in puddles– observe and wonder– tell stories –sing with the mockingbirds- gather berries-dance like crazy- treat skinned knees – protect bees – gain problem solving skills- build your bravery- create yummy snacks – learn and grow side by side with amazing children every day!

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in setting up the environment, invitations, and facilitating creative and stimulating learning experiences
  • Reading with children and writing down their stories
  • Supervising the safety of all children
  • Documenting learning stories
  • Facilitating positive social interactions and play
  • Adhering to the philosophy, policies and mission of Sunflower Creative Arts
  • Helping in general housekeeping tasks before, during and after camp
  • Treating all Sunflower community members (adults and children) with dignity and respect.

This is a half-day position, approx 20-25 hours/week.

Teachers

Sunflower is always on the lookout for potential Teachers to join our wonderful team in our Seedlings early childhood program; a mixed-age, play-based child-led preschool program (for 3-6 year olds). Our Part-Time schedule is perfect for parents who want to work while their children are in school, for students looking to work around their school schedule, or for those looking to stay involved with important work once moving on from a full time position.

Sunflower’s Seedlings is a Parent Cooperative preschool. We have respectfully nurtured young children’s growth for 24 years. The pillars of our educational philosophy are simple: Respect for the Individual, Learning within Community, and Learning through Experience. Our teaching staff and our Seedlings parents work as a team to bring these pillars to life each and every day.

In Seedlings you will:

Build sandcastles – make play dough – answer questions – read books – sort dress up clothes – get really dirty and wet – paint toes – tell stories – listen to stories – treat skinned knees – protect bees – build cardboard robots – mediate disagreements – build block cities – share snacks – hold hands – play pretend.

We require openness to new ideas and an interest in the whys of doing things. The Sunflower model is a unique educational environment, and Sunflower is a great place to grow and learn professionally.  

Things we are looking for:

Florida Childcare 40-hour Introductory Child Care Training or active Staff Credential for this position is a plus.

  • At least 1 year experience working with children
  • The ability to run after small children, crouch on the ground and lift up to 50 lbs.

Administrative Assistant/Family Liaison

Job Openings

Sunflower Creative Arts seeks an Administrative Assistant & Family Liaison. This important role will be the first point of contact for families in all of our programs, as well as prospective future families. This team member will run our reception space, and be the record-keeper for essential files and documents. The ideal candidate will be experienced in handling a wide range of administrative and customer support related tasks and will be able to work independently with little or no supervision. This person must be exceedingly well organized, flexible, able to multitask, and love working with children and adults.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a friendly, smooth-running, secure reception space
  • Spearheading clear and accessible verbal and written communication (in-person, over the phone, and online) with parents participating in all our programs.
  • Tracking and maintaining confidential records in a timely, organized manner
  • Overseeing general inquiries by monitoring email accounts and answering the phone
  • Receive and distribute mail and deliveries
  • Maintain parent contact information in the database

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience managing the main entrance to a workplace while simultaneously working in a busy office space and answering phones
  • Stellar computer skills, including familiarity with Word, Excel, Google Drive, as well as Facebook
  • Strong interpersonal skills (in-person, on the phone, and written)
  • Sales and marketing skills
  • Very well-organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to monitor front door to maintain secure entry and exit of students and visitors
  • Willingness to learn new skills, platforms, and programs
  • Flexible & adaptable, with an open-minded approach
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a high energy environment with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Self-motivated with the knack for anticipating needs
  • Ability to work some nights and on occasional weekends
  • Love of Sunflower Creative Arts and our philosophy

Position is three-quarter time, 46 weeks per year. Salary commensurate with experience. Conditions of employment include:

  • Local, state and national background screen required
  • 40 hour Florida Department of Children and Families Introductory Childcare Training completion required within one year of hire
